Shelf-Edge Labels That Scan
A shelf-edge label code carries the product, SKU, and price in one scannable block. Staff scanning the shelf can check the price on the system against the price on the label without typing a SKU, and shoppers scanning it can see the product detail behind the label.
Keeping shelf prices honest
The price in the code and the price on the label must match the price at the till. A mismatch is the most common shelf-label complaint, and it is usually caused by updating one place and forgetting the others. Regenerate the label whenever the price changes, and check the batch against the price list before it goes on the shelf.
Before you print the batch
- Scan a sample label and confirm the product, SKU, and price read correctly.
- Check every SKU appears once — a duplicate SKU puts two labels on one product.
- Print the price in plain text next to the code so shoppers need not scan.
- Walk the aisle after placing labels and scan a sample of each.
