Encoded payload

This is exactly what the QR code contains. Check it before printing.

Fill in the fields above to generate the payload.

The payload is your enrollment page URL with the course code added as a code query parameter, so the page opens on this course with the code already applied.

How to use the Course Enrollment QR Generator

One code per course

A course code in the QR removes the step where students pick the wrong course from a long catalogue list. The scan opens enrollment with this course and its code already applied, so the student only has to confirm. Generate one code per course, and use the code exactly as it appears in your enrollment system, including hyphens and capital letters. A code that is close but not exact is a code that fails.

Where the code belongs

Put the code on course flyers, department noticeboards, open-day handouts, and the last slide of a taster session, where interest is highest. Pair it with the course title, the code, and the instructor name in plain text, so a student who cannot scan still knows what to search for. If enrollment needs an account, say so beside the code, so students are not surprised mid-flow.

Testing before you print

Print a sample at the real size and scan it with two different phones. Confirm the enrollment page opens on the right course with the right code applied, and that the full enrollment works without a surprise login wall. Keep the quiet zone around the code and print dark modules on a light background with strong contrast. Re-check codes each term, because course codes and enrollment pages change.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the QR code actually contain?

It contains your enrollment page URL with the course code added as a code query parameter. The payload is shown verbatim on this page so you can check it before printing.

Does my enrollment page need to support the code parameter?

Yes. Your enrollment page must read the code parameter and open that course with the code applied. If it ignores the parameter, the code still opens the page, but students have to find the course by hand.

What if the course code changes?

Generate a new code with the new course code and reprint. A printed code stores the old code permanently, so it will keep opening enrollment for the old code until it is replaced.

Will this QR code work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Modern iPhone and Android cameras read QR codes natively and open the enrollment page in the browser. Test on both platforms before a large print run if your audience is mixed.
